Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) is one of the world’s most popular health foods. It was introduced as a super food in Bhutan in 2015. Since Quinoa is an introduced exotic crop it does not yet have a local Bhutanese name.Known for its gluten-free, high in protein nature, it has now become the recommended diet for people with gluten allergy.Quinoa can be mixed with rice in the ratio of 80:20 (Rice: Quinoa). It can then be cookednormally in the rice cooker. Normally the water required for cooking Quinoa is slightly less than that required for cooking rice alone. Quinoa can also be solely cooked as porridge (Thuep).
